Welcome to our Craft of the Month for April 1999!

This month featured crafts for both Easter and Earth Day!

Easter Bunnies & Earth Day Medallions

Materials:
glue;
pom-poms - 2 big white for body, 2 medium white for cheeks, 1 small white for tail ... 1 tiny pink for nose;
white construction paper cut into the shape of the bunny (back- to glue pom-poms onto) and for feet;
pink felt for toes and ears;
pink pipe cleaners for whiskers;
googly eyes for, well, EYES! (NOTE: we lost one, so we made a patch and our bunny is now a Pirate Bunny!);
and a popsicle stick to hold the whole thing together.

Pretty straightforward; Mom, you will need to cut the shape of the bunny onto the construction paper (like a snowman with ears!) ahead of time. Also, cut the toes and inside of ears out of the felt while you're at it! This way the kids just has fun gluing. Now, have them glue the bunny figure cut-out onto the stick so it's a puppet figure. Fill it out by gluing the big pom-poms onto the figure, the medium pom-poms onto the top big one (cheeks), the nose, the whiskers (these last things you will have to hold a bit to set); the feet cut outs just go on front of the tummy, with the toes subsequently glued onto that. The tail whereever the mood strikes, and the eyes. My daughter stuck her eyes up in the bunnies ears - I didn't scan that one, it's a bit too alien looking! Voila! A bunny! Let it dry.
While those were drying, you can have the kids color or create different "earth friendly" pictures or messages. Then cut them out and glue them onto cardboard. Punch a hole in it, string a ribbon through, and TA-DAAA! One handy-dandy Earth Day Medallion. The kids actually seemed to enjoy these more than the bunnies when all was done. My kids still play with them. Remember to be careful around smaller ones with the ribbon!!!!
That's it for this month! Happy Easter!
