Craft for the month of August 1998

Craft of the Month!

Birdhouse feeders
This simple craft was so fun to make! You don't even need the birdhouse, but it made it extra cute! First the kids painted their little birdhouses (the house part is approx. 3-1/2" tall) and then set them aside to dry. After we played for awhile, we came back to our pinecones, tied twine around the top and rolled them in honey (peanut butter or shortening would also work). Then we rolled them in wild birdseed. Tie them onto the little birdhouse, and Voila! A birdhouse feeder! You can also do this with papercups, poking a hole in the bottom and pulling the twine through for hanging. We hung ours outside out backdoor, and the birds have really been enjoying them!

Materials: Pinecones; twine; honey, peanut butter or shortening; optional birdhouse & paints.
