This is the recipe from our December Cooking Club...
The Cooking Club theme for December was our annual cookie exchange. Everybody brought a dozen cookies for EACH PERSON attending, and then brought home a squillion cookies to give as gifts, etc... your holiday baking is over! It is a LOT easier to hammer out 15 dozen of the same recipe, than to keep regrouping and starting fresh. Our winning recipe was submitted by Gretchen, a brand new member!

Molasses Softies
1 cup margarine or butter
1 & 1/3 cups sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup molasses
3 Tbsp. corn syrup (light or dark)
2 tbsp. milk
4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 & 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 & 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
sugar
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In large bowl beat together butter, sugar & egg until light & fluffy. Beat in molasses, corn syrup & milk until blended. Add flour, baking soda & spices, beating until well blended. Shape dough into 1 & 1/2 inch balls. Roll balls in sugar. Place 3" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 12 to 14 minutes, or until golden brown (10 minutes for smaller cookies). Do not overbake or cookies will not be soft. Cool 1 to 2 minutes on baking sheet, then remove to racks to cool completely. Makes approx. 40 cookies.
